Stopping Infections

What is an infection?

Your skin is amazing and usually forms an effective barrier against germs, but you can become vulnerable to infection if the skin is broken. This could be the result of a cut, graze, blister or burn, or might be the result of cracked skin due to dryness. If possible you should always disinfect wounds, even minor ones.

Symptoms of infection

If you or your child are wounded, no matter how minor it is, you should know how to spot the symptoms of infection.

Symptoms of infection can include:

  • intensified pain around the wound
  • numbness
  • swelling
  • redness or pus in the damaged area

In some cases infection can lead to fever or swollen glands. If you notice these signs you should consult a medical professional.

First Aid

If you or your child are injured, the best way to avoid infection is to immediately prevent germs from entering it. Here are some ways to keep a wound free from infection:

  • Let the wound bleed for a short time to wash out germs and bacteria.
  • Wash the affected area with clean, lukewarm or cold water.
  • Disinfect the wound with Bepanthen® First Aid Cream.
  • Keep the wound disinfected with Bepanthen® First Aid Cream.
  • For protection from germs, use plasters or dressings that don't stick to the wound.
